Daum Nancy, Insects Box
Daum Nancy items with applied and wheel-carved insects are important and sophisticated. The insects were applied with molten glass, with a slice of colored metal foil in the eye. Later on the box cooled, a glass creative person carved the bugs, complete with legs that extend into the box itself. The metal foil reflects in the bugs, giving them nice color. The same for the cabochons. They were carved and faceted past bike-carving. This box has an amazing 3 insects and two cabochons. It's museum-quality. Overnice size at4½" wide 10 5" long. Daum Nancy, Peacock Plume Bowl
DaumPeacock Plumevases are very sophisticated because of the hard techniques used to produce them.Most of the work on the basin is standard acid-etching, simply not the centers of the feathers. The light blue and dark blueish glass was applied when the drinking glass was molten, then pressed into the bowl on the marver. The process is called padding, which makes for special vases. I only get one or two Peacock Feather items yearly and they sell very speedily. This example measures 3½" tall x half-dozen¾" bore. Mint status.

There are two basic types of Daum Nancy scenic vases -- acrid-etched but and acid-etched with enameling. There is a meaning difference in appearance and quality, so I rarely buy vases that are only acid-etched.
This case is exactly what I await for -- a beautiful scene with incredible detail that can only be accomplished past the addition of manus-painted and fired details. There is tremendous depth in this vase, with internal mottling for the clouds and water. It's just gorgeous and large, at 12" tall.

Daum Nancy, Practical Acorn Vase
I was thrilled to learn this special Daum Nancy vase with practical and wheel-carved acorns, insects and cabochon. It's a very sophisticated vase with multiple techniques, all labor-intensive. First the vase was formed by the gaffer, followed by layering with colored powders (for the leaves and background). This was followed past the application of colored foil to the surface, which was covered with articulate molten glass. (Call back this was all done while the glass was hot.) On cooling, the cold vase was given to the carver, who hand-engraved the detail in the ii acorns, i red insect, one light-green insect, and 1 golden cabochon. He too carved a martelé pattern into the background, to look like hammered copper. Finally he hand-engraved the signature along the pes rim. It's a gorgeous, important vase, for the all-time collections. Overnice size at 7½" alpine. Mint condition.

Daum Nancy, Applied Drupe Vase
When a flower has been padded and cycle-carved, it means that information technology was applied when the glass was molten. On cooling, the details were manus-carved by a master craftsman. Daum Nancy, Beetle Box
I recently acquired this special Daum Nancy box with practical and bicycle-carved insects and cabochons. It'southward a very sophisticated box with multiple,labor-intensive, techniques utilized in its manufacture.
Outset the box cover and lid were formed by the gaffer, followed past layering with colored powders (for the leaves and background) in a technique called vitrification, making the lid, peculiarly, look similar the flooring of the woods. This was followed by the application of colored metal foil to the surface beneath each insect and cabochon. Each piece of foil was then covered with a dollop of clear molten glass.
After cooling, the box was given to the carver, who hand-engraved the detail into the three insects and two cabochons. They appear to be colored because of the refraction of light coming from the colored foil underneath. They are really clear drinking glass. Finally he hand-engraved the signature on the underside.
It's a gorgeous, of import box, for the best collections. Nice size at iv½" foursquare. Excellent condition.
